Special Events and Trips
Round Out Your Child's Development
Because creative programming is essential to a well-rounded camp experience, we offer many special events and activities that are uniquely Birchmont. Traditional favorites include: DJ Socials, Hoe Down, Apache Relay, 4th of July Races, Breakfast in Bed, Bagel Sunday, Campfire Storytelling, Variety Show, World Cup Soccer, Checker/Chess Tournament, Banquet, Candlelight and of course the Luminary Walk to the Birchmont Fireworks! The majority of these are camp-wide events, bringing boys and girls together in a comfortable, activity-oriented setting, and creating yet another outlet for campers’ self-expression, while fostering the cohesive spirit which makes the “Birchmont Experience” so memorable. In addition, Birchmont offers trips which allow campers the opportunity to see some of the natural wonders, cultural experiences, sports-related events and recreational activities that New England has to offer. As our campers mature over their years at Birchmont, their trip schedule expands to reflect their interests, adding a new dimension to their annual camp experience.
Except for the first and last weeks of each summer, our campers will enjoy an age-appropriate trip every week of the summer. Off-site destinations include Boston, Kennebunkport, Quebec, the Maine seacoast, and the diversity of the White Mountain National Forest. Accompanied by competent staff leadership, campers participate in overnight camping trips, climbing mountain trails such as Mount Chocurua, or whitewater rafting on the mighty Kennebec River. Younger campers explore the Polar Caves, Whale’s Tail Water Park, ride the Mt. Washington Ferry or experience the fun of camping out with their friends around a campfire.
Rainy days aren’t a challenge at Birchmont. In fact, they are often a gentle change of pace to the vigorous schedule. When we are not having movie screenings, karaoke parties, play practices or indoor activities in our lodge – our own D.O.T. school bus line takes campers roller skating, bowling, and to the movies. No day at Birchmont is ever a wash-out.
