At Camp Birchmont you will not only find the best possible STAFF TO CAMPER RATIO – at 1 staff member for every 2 campers – but you will also find perhaps the longest tenured SUPERVISORY STAFF in all of camping. Most of our top positions – from Director to Chef, to Head of Boys or Girls Camps to our two Waterfront Directors, right through our many ACTIVITY HEADS – have been at camp more than 20 years and in some cases longer than 45! At Birchmont we believe in hand picking our staff from our many contacts as well as through staff search engines as needed – and many are referred to us from past counselors, campers or their families. Birchmont is well known as a great place to work, especially since the well known Pierce concept that “many hands make light work” spreads the incredible workload of a busy summer over so many capable people at Birchmont. That mentality makes for a happier summer for our counselors and staff as a whole, which leads to great continuity from season to season… something that gives us a huge advantage with both staff and camper retention.
With a large staff, our campers are assured they will be well known almost as soon as they arrive to camp and supervision around the clock, especially for our teen campers, is assured. We ALWAYS have at least one adult staff member on duty in EVERY cabin, EVERY night of camp, an important factor for parents who are concerned with nighttime coverage issues. All of our counselors have cabin coverage responsibilities four nights a week and three nights off duty, along with one full day off per week which falls either on Sunday or Monday.
Our ideal staff work and play hard and take GREAT PRIDE in their roles with us each summer, and they know that at Birchmont – KIDS COME FIRST! Do you think you might fit that model? Birchmont staff choose between applying for a GENERAL COUNSELOR role or for the job of being an ACTIVITY SPECIALIST (assistant or leader) based on their skills and interests. If you are 18 or older and can make the full scope of our summer dates including staff orientation, we welcome you to apply to work with us this summer using the online application found under the “work@camp” menu at the top of this screen.
Once you have completed your application, please be sure to hit submit at the bottom. You should also ask at least one reference to complete the online reference form (found under the same menu listing) on your behalf. Once we have both forms, we will respond with a request for more information or to set up a time for an interview. If you would like, you may supplement your application by sending a “cover email” along with it, where you may also wish to ask any initial questions you have.
