& Tradition The
Pierce Family's professional dedication to the growth and
development of children goes back to the turn of the century.
In 1918, Forrester "Pop" Pierce, Sr. - a career
educated and athletic director - started our country's first
day camp, introducing this present-day summer tradition
to the American public.
From
that date forward, the Pierce family diversified into other
child-oriented professions. Inevitably, "Pop"
gave up his full-time teaching position, opening the Pierce
Country Day School in 1941. Eight years later, Pierce Coach
Lines began providing bus service to all children attending
Pierce Country Day School and Camp. Each Pierce business
is directed by a family member who dedicates 100% of his
time and efforts to its operation.
Soon
after, while vacationing in the beautiful Lakes Region of
New Hampshire, "Pop" happened upon a camp named
Birchmont, which had been operating successfully since 1907.
He was so taken with the place and its breathtaking surroundings,
there was only one thing to do; in 1951, the Pierce Family
purchased Birchmont, and assumed its directorship.
In
the past half-century, three generations of Pierce's have
built a sterling reputation for Birchmont as an exemplary
traditional camp that puts as much emphasis on individual
growth as it does on fun. |
